the boy who harnessed the wind

clouds countryside dutch windmill
when William Kamkwamba was only 14 he built a wind turbine to power a few electrical outlets for his family. before he built a windmill he was a farmer in a place in Africa called Malawi. he got knowledge from going to the library and reading books about science and then he started building the windmill. he built it out of blue gum trees, a few parts from a bike and some other things he found in a scrapyard. the first windmill powered 4 lights and a circuit breaker and the second windmill pumped water for irrigation. when he built the windmill there was a drought so they could not harvest any food. when he was done people lined up at his house to charge there phones reporters and bloggers came to. which led to him giving a ted talk in arusha. he said he wanted to continue to work in energy to build windmills for his whole village.
